Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has accused telecom giant MTN Nigeria of exploiting Nigerians through what he described as persistent data depletion and unfair billing practices.
In a post on X, Sowore alleged that what many subscribers previously considered technical glitches has now evolved into deliberate exploitation.
“MTN @MTNNG data thievery is no longer a glitch, it’s system robbery cum extortion.”
He further lamented the declining value of data services despite rising costs, warning that Nigerians are being shortchanged daily.
“Nigerians are paying more for less every single day. This scam must be put to an end!”
Escalating his criticism, Sowore called for collective action against the telecom provider, signalling a possible protest movement.
“Enough talk. It’s time to pick a date and #OccupyMTN.”
The allegation adds to growing public complaints over data consumption and billing transparency among telecom users in Nigeria, though MTN Nigeria has yet to officially respond to the claims.
Sowore’s remarks are expected to further stir debate over consumer protection and regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
