The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee has disqualified 56 aspirants in Rivers State, reportedly linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political camp, while approving 33 others for its House of Assembly primaries.
The development has heightened political tension within the state chapter of the party, where internal alignments have remained volatile ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
A senior party insider described the screening process as strict and consequential, noting that many aspirants were caught off guard by the outcome.
“The screening process was very strict. Many aspirants were surprised by the disqualification list,” the source said.
The APC has not officially disclosed the specific grounds for the mass disqualification.
However, party insiders allege that the screening outcome may be linked to issues such as incomplete documentation and concerns over political alignment within competing factions.
Meanwhile, the 33 cleared aspirants are expected to move forward to the next phase of the primaries under the supervision of the party leadership, as the screening exercise continues to reshape the contest in Rivers State.
