The Chairman of the 5 man Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Ado-Odo crisis, Hon. Justice Oluwatosin Elizabeth Osinuga, has warned those that will appear before the Commission not to give false evidence, information or intimidate as that would lead them to jail.
Hon. Justice Osinuga accordingly to a statement by the Media-Officer of the Commission, Mr. Ayokunle-Ewuoso handed down the warning during the inaugural sitting of the Commission at the High Court of Justice, Isabo, Abeokuta.
According to the Commission Chairman the Commission strongly take objection to people coming before it to give false evidence with the intention of misleading the court adding that it has the power to send anybody found in the act to jail.
She said “we want you know that this Commission is a fact finding Commission. We warn that nobody should intimidate anybody, nobody should prevent anyone from coming to this Commission either to give evidence or testify as witness or to tender exhibits. The Commission has the power to summarily convict if we find anyone threatening because we are backed up by the court of law and we have the power to convict and send whoever we find in these acts to jail”.
While disclosing that the Commission has other power to summon anybody to give evidence or any document which it feels is vital to the Commission at arriving at a just recommendation, Hon. Justice Osinuga pointed out that parties wishing to be represented by their counsel would be allowed.
“However we want the counsel to please corporate with the Commission and avoid unnecessary objections, this is a fact finding Commission as I have said, so we would not take any preliminary objections from the counsel.
We are here to do justice to all and all manner of men, the Commission will as much as possible listen to every complaint that you have, listen to every petition, we would give you time to adopt your petitions that have been filed as your evidence and we will also give you time to say few things that you may want to add to what you have written down,” Justice Osinuga explained.
She assured that the Commission would be in-partial in the discharge of its duties nothing that it would between now and the 15th of July this year render its recommendations to the State Government.
