Police Honours Late AIG Sanomi, Bada, Ajunwa, 140 Others With Sports Award

The Nigerian Police has honoured late Assistant Inspector General of
Police, Mr. Dickson Sanomi posthumously for his outstanding contribution
to sports in the force.

Also, honoured along the late AIG Sanomi, is Olympic gold medalists, late
Sunday Bada and Chioma Ajunwa and the Inspector General of Police, Mr.
Mohammed Abubakar.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police was the Force Sports Officer.

In a ceremony at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, which witnesses a
gathering of retired and serving Police Officers, the Inspector General
Police said that officers and men who have passed through the force and
have done so much should be appreciated.

“We are indeed grateful to every Policeman serving and retired, for your
contribution, for making the Police what it is today in terms of sports
development. We have produced so much for the country. Kikelomo Ajayi,
late Sunday Bada,Fatima is there in Badminton and there are several
others.”

Mr. Abubakar, however, pointed out that demands of time and the job have
led to a lull assuring that “we are going back to the planning stage to
ensure that Nigeria gets back to the stage it was before.”
The IGP promised that Police officers that were into sports will be promoted.

In a chat with FrontiersNews, Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa noted
that the award is unique even as she added that “anything you are doing
make sure you do it well because it might take long before you will be
recognised but one day we know the messiah must come.”

The award was divided into four categories, with category one going to
Corporate/friends of the Police. Category 2 officers for sports award
(retired) was given to 69 officers. Category 3, 9 officers took home the
Award for Nigeria Police Management Team.

For the Serving Police Officers in Planning Committee for Award, 13
officers were honoured and for Officers for Sports Award (Post Humous), 46
officers were honoured.
