Minister of State Power, Hon Mohammed Wakil has commended President GoodLuck Jonathan for initiating and supervising the launching of Terror Victims Fund, describing it as “unprecedented show of love for the people of North East”
Equally, Hon Wakil appreciated the President for appointing two indigenes of Borno state, Dr Josesph Thama Dawha and Alhaji Saleh Dunoma as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria respectively.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Mr. Olawale Rasheed, the minister said the president deserves commendation for not just initiating the establishment of the fund but for “personally supervising the collection of donations on the day of the launching.
“The president has again shown his passion for rescuing the North East from the pangs of terrorism and under-development .By supervising the launching ,Mr. President has again reaffirmed his identification with our zone in this troubled times. The terror fund is coming on the heel of the Presidential committee on North East which is working on sectoral reconstruction of the North East.
“The initiative to set up the fund for rehabilitation of victims is a practical action not just to tame the insurgency but to restore normalcy to countless victims who had lost loved ones, properties, sustained incapacitating injuries and psychological trauma from the conflict.
While commending the president, Wakil however urged the committee to expedite action on planned interventions and ensure judicious application of the fund, adding that “the president has set positive tone for the committee to build on.
‘’We know the committee is composed of eminent Nigerians and we have confidence its members will act urgently to address the worsening needs of our people. Mr. President has demonstrated political will and we of the North East are appreciative of his personal commitment to rebuilding the North East and taken care of the terror victims’’, the Minister said.
