The Acting Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian
Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro
has approved the redeployment of some senior management staff of the
Agency.
According to the Acting DG, the new postings are expected to reposition
the Agency towards meeting its statutory mandate as enshrined in the
NIMASA Act and other enabling instruments.
The deployment exercise has Mr. Ibrahim Jibril as the Director of
Administration and Personnel Services department, Mr. Felix Bob Nabena is
Director of SERVICOM, Mr Olayemi Abass takes over as the Head of Financial
Services department, Mr. Suleman Abdulsalam is the Ag. Legal Adviser, Mr.
Mohammed Sani is the Head of Procurement department while Hassan el-Yakub
is Head of Cabotage Department.
Similarly, Hajia Lami Tumaka is now the Deputy Director/Head of Public
Relations, Aisha Musa has been redeployed to Head the Western Zone, Mr.
Isichei Osamgbi is Deputy Director, Maritime Guard Command, Mr. Dele
Ejekuko is in charge of Zones in the DG’s Office and Mr. Eric Orji is the
Acting Registrar of Ships.
Mr. Jibril who until this posting was the Director of Planning Research
and Data Management Services department is an astute administrator of over
30 years cognate experience in the Transport and Logistics sector. He was
at various times head of Human Resources, Public Relations and Maritime
Capacity Building Units of the Agency. Mr Jibril holds a diploma in
Aircraft Engineering in 1982, a degree in Public Administration and a
masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy. He is also a Fellow of
the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) and the
Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM).
A 1994 graduate of Business Administration, Mr. Bob Nabena also holds an
MBA in Management and was until his deployment to SERVICOM the Director of
Administration and Personnel Services after having served as the Special
Assistant to the former DG of NIMASA, Dr. Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi for
four years.
The new Head of the Financial Services Department, Mr. Olayemi Abass is a
1988 HND holder in Accounting with an M.Sc in Contemporary Accounting from
the Leeds Metropolitan University. He is also a member of the Association
of National Accountants of Nigeria. He has held several positions in the
Agency including Deputy Director Finance, Coordinator of the Eastern Zonal
Office of NIMASA and more recently was in charge of Zonal Coordination in
the DG’s Office.
Mr. Abdulsalam, a Deputy Director, until his posting as the Ag. Legal
Adviser to the Agency was the Registrar of Ships. A 1986 graduate of Law,
the new Legal Adviser also holds a Masters degree in Law and has
previously worked in various capacities in the Legal Unit and Planning
Research and Data Management Services department.
Mr. Mohammed Sani whose current posting is Head of the Procurement
department is a Deputy Director whose service to the Agency cuts across
many areas. The 1981 graduate of Sociology who also holds a Masters in
Public Administration is the immediate past head of SERVICOM. He was
previously the Head of Zonal Coordination in the DG’s Office as well as
Coordinator, Eastern Zone.
Mr. el-Yakub is a 1981 HND graduate who also holds a masters degree in
Transport Technology. He has previously worked in Shipping Development,
Cabotage and Western Zonal Office as a Deputy Director.
Hajia Lami Tumaka, the current head of Public Relations has served in this
capacity in two previous occasions. A 1979 graduate of English, Hajia
Tumaka also holds a diploma in Public Relations and an MBA in Business
Management. The Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations
(FNIPR) brings to bear on this assignment, about three decades cognate
experience in journalism, public relations and management. She has
previously worked in the Planning, Research and Data Management Services
and Administration and Personnel Services departments of the Agency with
her most recent posting being Deputy Director Maritime Guard Command.
Mrs. Aisha Musa returns to a familiar turf as Coordinator of the Western
Zone having served in that capacity previously. A 1982 graduate of Law,
Mrs. Musa had also served as the Registrar of Ships and Deputy Director
Legal in the DG’s office.
The immediate past Head of Public Relations, Mr. isichei Osamgbi is a 1992
graduate of English who also hold a masters degree in International Law
and Diplomacy. Mr. Osamgbi who is now Deputy Director Maritime Guard
Command had earlier served as Coordinator of the Abuja Liaison Office and
has about twenty years previous experience in journalism and the Oil and
Gas sector.
Mrs. Uruakpa who until her deployment as Deputy Director Maritime Labour
Services was the Ag. Legal Adviser, is a 1985 graduate of Law and also
hold a Masters in Public Administration.
Mr. Eric Orji, the Acting Registrar of Ships was until this new posting,
an Assistant Director in the Ship Registry. A 1986 Law graduate with
masters in International Maritime Law, Mr. Orji had previously served in
Shipping Development department.
All handing and taking over processes have since been concluded and the
Directors settled in their new postings.
