Sokoto State Government has declared tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, 2015
(Muharram, 1, 1437) AH, as a public holiday.
A statement issued in Sokoto signed by Malam Imam Imam, the spokesman to
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, congratulated Nigerian Muslims for
witnessing the New Year and appealed to them to use the occassion of the
public holiday to intensify prayers for the nation.
It urged all citizens to care, love and protect one another, adding that
Islamic virtues of unity, peace and honesty should be promoted by all
persons.
The statement said Sokoto state government will continue with policies and
programmes that will uplift the dignity and living standard of all
persons.
It equally commiserated with the families of the citizens of the state who
either got injured or lost their lives in the Hajj stampede last month.
It reiterated government’s commitment to assist families of all victims,
saying no victim will be left unattended to.
The statement prayed for a prosperous Islamic New Year for all citizens.
