The Independent Electoral  Commission (INEC) has hailed the commendable
gallantry exhibited by the women and youths of Oporoma, headquarters of
Southern Ijaw  LGAs, Ekowe  and Otuan  communities who have resolved to
take their destiny in their hands by chasing away militants and forming a
formidable vigilante groups to guide electoral materials till the entire
of the rerun.

The Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign  Organisation, Jonathan
Obuebite, describes it as a commendable show of resistance.

He said, “This development we reliably gathered was the people’s resolve
to ensure that nobody disenfranchise them from exercising their
constitutional responsibilities.

At Otuan, an APC chieftain, Rufus Abadi met  a resilient blockade by women
and youth who chased away political thugs he had assembled in his compound
to undermine the process.

“While efforts to thwart activities at Oporoma was equally resisted as
women n youths in their hundreds chased  the militants away,  Ekowe
community rose to the occasion by stopping another show of shame by a
dreaded militant called Eris Paul, popularly  known as General Ogunbos.”

Obuebite who was full of praise for the resistance, also called on other
communities to emulate these gallantry and ensure that their vote
contravenes during the rerun.

It was learnt that INEC was particularly happy with this development.
