A Contractor selected by the President Mohammadu Buhari Government to
supply 113 trucks of grain allocated to Borno internal displaced people
(IDPs) to fight malnutrition and the growing hunger in the troubled north
eastern state have allegedly diverted 60 trucks.
Speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri the Borno State capital , Nigeria’s
Senate Leader, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume said the crooked contractor
whose name was not given diverted 60 trucks load of grain out of the 113
trucks allocated to the state .
“This is an unfortunate incident , the contractor only delivered 53 trucks
out of the 113 allocated to Borno Stat.” Ndume said
Ndume who hails from Gwoza local government area of Borno state stated
that his visit to the state was prompted by President Buhari who requested
him to come down and commence distribution of grains alongside officials
of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)
“But unfortunately we could proceed with the distribution; I have to go
back and inform the president of this ugly development” Ndume said
He however disclosed that the contractor have since been arrested and he
is being investigated by the EFCC .
The Senate leader also revealed that plans are underway to short down all
IDP camps housing some Borno indigenes in the Nations’ capital, Abuja
and request they be taken to transit camp in their own local government of
Gwoza in Borno state “ from where they can easily go back to their homes.”
“ I have told them (IDPs) in clear terms that time is ripe for them to go
back home, there’s no point remaining in the camp after three years .
“ Gwoza local government area is now safe and secured , over 10,000
resident are now living safely in Gwoza and there is no cause for alarm”
