The Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Saturday’s ward congresses to elect party executives will hold across the country on as scheduled.
statement on Thursday issued by Secretary of CECPC, Senator John Akpanudoedehe in Abuja, said the July 31 date for the congress is sacrosanct and has not changed.
The statement said the clarification became necessary following personal interpretations and opinions by some chieftains of the Supreme Court judgement on the Ondo governorship election.
Pointblanknews.com recalls that after the judgement, the minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Festus Keyamo (SAN), advised the APC to stop all preparations and conduct of congresses.
According to Keyamo in a Facebook post on Wednesday night said, “The planned congresses across the country slated for this weekend must immediately be suspended because it will be an exercise in futility as analysed above. The competence of Gov. Mai Mala Buni to organise the congresses has been called to question by the Supreme Court.’
According to the party’s statement, “Ward Congress Committees of the party has already been inaugurated and delegated with the responsibility of conducting, supervising, monitoring and giving feedback to the Party on the outcome of the scheduled Ward Congresses.
“The clarification is against the backdrop of personal opinions being expressed by some individuals on the status of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC ) and its capacity to conduct the Congresses.
“While it is not our intention to join issues with these commentators, the Supreme Court in its Wednesday judgment affirming the Election victory of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN had no bearing on the CECPC’s status and its membership.”
It urged members and aspirants to come out en masse and peacefully participate in the ward congresses.
