Developer of the Enyimba Mall in Aba, Abia state, Mr. Chiedozie Njoku, has revealed how protesters looted construction equipment and burnt part of the Mall during the EndSARS protests in the city.

Njoku who disclosed this while unveiling the Mega products and fashion Expo of the Enyimba Mall shops, at the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (ACCIMA), stated that the project is not owned by the State government, but fully funded and owned by a private company, CheckBest International.

He, however commended the state government for providing the conducive environment and fixing the Etche road where the Mall is located and granting the company the approval to rehabilitate the adjourning Danfodio road which also leads to the mall.

The Developer described the mall as a ‘one stop shop and best shopping complex’  in the South East zone, stressing that the mall boasts of facilities like gas turbine, food court, car park, banks, recreational centre , standby solar power supply and 12,000 square rentable shops.

He said; “Enyimba mall was almost set to take off, but for the #EndSARS problem. During the #EndSARS protest, hoodlum invaded the mall and looted construction equipment and burnt some parts of the building. We incurred financial loss of over N50 million. The destruction set the completion of the mall backwards from opening date. It also brought about psychological and emotional losses. If it wasn’t for what happened during the #EndSARS protest, we would have taken off, but now we are set to take off.

“Enyimba Mall is 100% fully owned and funded by Checkbest International. It is the brainchild of Checkbest International. The government provided the conducive environment. The state government also fixed the Etche road where the mall is located. Enyimba mall is the best shopping mall, east of Niger. The concept of Enyimba mall is an upscale market where every facet of commercial life is accommodated at affordable rates. We have facilities like gas turbine, food court, 12,000 rentable shops, banks, etc. It is a place that has no rival in the South East. We are working with ACCIMA because it has the largest collection of traders.”

Njoku further disclosed that the approval which the Mall got from the state government to fix the Danfodio road was also hindered by the EndSARS protest.

President of ACCIMA, Chief Lawrence Obetta, who commended Checkbest International for investing Aba, tasked other businessmen from the South East zone to learn to invest at home to provide employment to the people and also contribute their quota to the development of the state.

He added that ACCIMA is always willing to assist businessmen with information on how they can invest wisely at home.
