Ahead of the Nigeria Super Eagles and Elephants of Cote d’ivoire quarter final encounter on Sunday, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the President of the Senate, David Mark, has called for Nigerians to pray for the Super Eagles to move past their formidable opponent.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also charged the Super Eagles to keep their eyes on the trophy as they take on Cote D’ Ivoire in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final clash.
The Party, which congratulated the Super Eagles for getting to the quarter-finals stage after beating Ethiopia on Tuesday, hinted that it has been praying for the team to get to the final stage and lift the coveted trophy.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement yesterday said the ruling party is proud of the players and charged them not to leave anything to chance but to do their best and make the nation proud by winning the cup.
“The PDP is proud of the Super Eagles and we commend them for qualifying for the quarter-finals. We have been praying for them to get to the finals and win the trophy. So we charge the players to keep their eyes on the cup as they go into their next matches especially as they take on Cote D’ Ivoire on Sunday”, he said.
The Party also charged Nigerians to continue to pray for the team adding that it is optimistic that the team will emerge victorious at the end of the tournament.
The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has charged the Nigerian lads to leave nothing to chance.
Senator Mark said that the Eagles have all it takes to overwhelm their Ivorian counterparts and sail to victory.
Speaking at the tee-off of the 2nd edition of Pa Aikwuta Mark Memorial Pro-am Golf tournament in honour of his late father in Otukpo , Benue State yesterday, Senator Mark called for team spirit amongst the Eagles during the encounter.
He said Nigerians have fasted and prayed for the Super Eagles’ victory, saying “All that is left for the players is to do their own part of the game and put smile on the faces of Nigerians”.
Senator Mark urged the Eagles and their handlers to do all that is needed to bring the trophy to Nigeria.
He said; “You see, Nigerians love soccer. I don’t know of any other thing that truly unite Nigerians. Any time we are playing, it is Nigeria and Nigeria. That is the uniting spirit we crave for in the nation. The Eagles are the medium to actualise this unity.”
