Authorities of Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja have deployed a special squad in search of the killers of nine female health workers in Kano, northern Nigeria Friday morning.
The Inspector General of Police Muhammadu Dahiru Aabubaka was on his way to Kano when unknown gun men in tricycles simultaneously attacked temporary health centres at Hotoro and Angwar Uku areas of the ancient commercial city gunning down nine women on Polio Immunization exercise.
The two areas are known flashpoints and as well, enclaves of the dreaded Islamic Boko Haram sect who have launched heinous killing campaign on the Nigerian government and its people.
IGP MD Abubakar was in Kano in company of Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Caleb Olubolade to commiserate with the government and people of Kano state over the attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero which resulted to the death of six people, leaving several others wounded, including two princes.
MD Abubakar noted that the killing of nine women in Kano should not be described as a security collapse,promisisng that security agents are on the trail of the culprits, “there will be no hiding place for those behind the heinous crime.”Does the recent killing of 29 persons in America suggest that the security apparatus in the US has collapsed? No, argued, it should not be judged that way because killings occur all over the world, so what is needed for now is to fortify security and that is what is engaging the attention of men of the Nigeria police,” MD Abubakar argued.
The Police boss described the attack on the Emir’s convoy as disturbing, while assuring that steps are however been taken to tackle the ongoing security challenges.
According to him, some successes are been recorded by the police, as some of the suspects have already been apprehended, stressing that we shall not be deterred in the task before us, stressing that some time, some day, we will overcome the challenges.
“We will do everything within our capacity to restore peace to the ancient city of Kano. We urge the people of the state to assist the police in provide relevant information, as well as intelligence reports that will help the police to knell the perpetrators of such crimes,” he noted.
Speaking on the incident, the Minister of Police Affairs expressed the determination of the Federal Government to restore peace in the state, pointing that we will continue to confront the ongoing challenges, promising that one day, we will overcome the challenges.
Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who was repreeented by his deputy, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje thanked the Minister of Police Affairs, and the IGP for coming to Kano to commiserate with the people and government of Kano State.
Ganduje explained that the government of Kano is fully aware of the ongoing security challenges in the state, disclosing that the government has adopted a pragmatic approach in tackling the issue.
He said that the state government has donated vehicles and other security equipment to the police in the state, towards improving the security situation in the state, so as to enable them perform effectively.
He also hinted that the government has offered assistance to the families of those police officers and the Emirate Council guards who lost their lives during the attack on the revered Kano monarch.
