Chief Abraham Jimawo, JP, a philanthropist and political leader widely admired across communities in Etsako land, has emerged as a figure many residents describe as a fresh and unique voice in the quest for purposeful representation at the National Assembly.
The United Kingdom -basee Nigerian who is seeking to represent the Etsako East/Etsako West/Etsako Central Federal Constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives in 2027, has continued to attract attention for what supporters describe as a style of leadership rooted in public service, compassion and commitment to the collective interest of the people.
Across the constituency, which comprises three local government areas, community members and political observers say the aspirant stands out for his longstanding engagement with grassroots development and humanitarian support for vulnerable groups.
Known for his philanthropic activities, Jimawo has over the years supported community initiatives, youth empowerment programmes and relief efforts for families facing economic hardship. Those familiar with his activities say these interventions were not driven by political ambition but by a deep sense of responsibility towards the wellbeing of the people.
Supporters believe this track record has positioned him as a credible alternative at a time when many voters are increasingly demanding leaders who prioritise service over personal gain.
According to associates, Jimawo’s political philosophy is anchored on the belief that leadership should be a vehicle for advancing the common good rather than an avenue for personal enrichment.
“He is different from the rest because he constantly thinks about the public interest,” a community stakeholder in the constituency said while commenting on the growing support for the aspirant.
Observers also note that Jimawo’s reputation as a calm and accessible leader has helped him build bridges across political and social divides within the constituency. Many residents describe him as a figure who listens carefully to community concerns and seeks practical ways of addressing them.
Political analysts within Edo State say the contest for the Etsako federal seat is expected to draw significant attention ahead of the next electoral cycle, given the strategic importance of the constituency in the state’s political landscape.
For many constituents, however, the discussion has increasingly centred on the type of leadership required to tackle challenges such as youth unemployment, infrastructure deficits and improved access to social services.
Supporters of Jimawo argue that his orientation towards service and development makes him well suited to champion policies and programmes that will directly benefit the people of the constituency.
They also point to his ability to connect with ordinary citizens as one of the qualities that distinguishes him from many traditional political actors.
As political activities gradually gather momentum in Edo State, Jimawo’s supporters say their campaign will continue to focus on issues of development, accountability and effective representation.
For them, the aspiration of the philanthropist and community leader represents not just another political contest but an opportunity to introduce what they describe as a new approach to leadership—one defined by empathy, public interest and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people of Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central Federal Constituency.
Time to think about the people is now!
