2015: FG set to screen 3000 Jonathan support groups

T‎he Presidency on Tuesday set up a Committee to screen all the 3,000 pro- Jonathan campaign groups with a bid to harmonising them.
At the inauguration of the Goodluck Support Group, GSG re-organization committee in Abuja , Special adviser to the President on political Affairs, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali said the evaluation of all the groups supportive of President Jonathan’s re-election bid in 2015 became imperative to ensure that they were organised in their activities.

Alkali who disclosed that it has ten days to submit its report, said, “as 2015 approaches, we note that the circumstances and fundamentals facing us is somewhat different. The opposition is different, the political landscape is different, the players are different and the issues are different. Therefore, to succeed in 2015, there is a great need to re-appraise our strategies and the structure of the umbrella organization (GSG) that helped us to victory in 2011.”
According to the Political Adviser, the over 3,000 groups and Non Governmental Organisation, NGOs, home and abroad positioning to campaign for President Jonathan must all participate in the screening and evaluation exercise which is billed to be conducted by his office in collaboration with PDP state chairmen and other stakeholders and supervised by Dr. Godson M. Nnaka to enable them understand and partner with the groups.
The Committee’s terms of reference would be to examine the structure and organization of the GSG, evaluate how the various directorates and units operate in relation to each other, propose reorganization and structure of the GSG to improve its effectiveness, make recommendations to reposition the GSG to achieve its overall organizational goals and objectives, adding that the committee may consider memorandum from relevant stakeholders.
He dismissed claims that posters, billboards, jingles, newspaper advertisements encouraging President Jonathan to run in 2015 are being sponsored by the Presidency saying they are done by private individuals and groups who identified with the transformation agenda of the President and wants him to continue beyond 2015.
Other members of the Committee are Chief Olusola Oke; Prof. Nick Eze; William Makinde; Prof. Mohammed El-Amin; Sen. Nimi Barigha Amange; A.Y. Ahamad; Alhaji . Lamido Umar Chikaire; Prof. Tony Edoh; Hajia. Barakat Sani and Dr. Godson M. Nnaka as Secretary.
