The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would next week inaugurate its committees of finance and discipline, headed by the Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio and Dr. Umaru Dikko respectively.
While the disciplinary committee would be inaugurated on October 17, 2013 the finance committee would be inaugurated, October 18, 2013 in Abuja respectively.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Oliseh Metuh, who disclosed the inauguration of the committees while briefing the press after the weekly National Working Committee (NWC) meeting also lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the causing confusion over Dikko’s membership of the PDP. He further rubbished reports that Dikko was unhealthy.
INEC still has Dikko listed as the national chairman of the United Democratic Party
(UDP) on the website of INEC.
Metuh said “we are not responsible for INEC’s lapses for not removing him from their website as chairman of the UDP. I can confirm to you that Dikko is a member of the PDP. If INEC’s website has a defect it is for INEC to answer.”
He also dismissed reports of Dikko’s health issues stating “we are mere mortals, we can be afflicted at any time. We only pray that we get well anytime we are down. I can confirm to you that he is well and fit to undertake the duties assigned to him.”
Moreover, A J Turner who was replaced with Chief Ebenezer Babatope as deputy chairman of the disciplinary committee.
The also appointed the Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio to head a 22-man national finance committee ahead of the 2015 election.
The Katsina State governor, Ibrahim Shema would serve as deputy in the finance committee just as Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Hon. Bello Mohammed Muttawalle are members of the committee.
