Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu for visiting Plateau State to attend a political event while victims of insecurity across the country continue to suffer without presidential condolence.
Atiku, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, described Tinubu’s visit as evidence that the President does not prioritise ordinary Nigerians.
He noted that despite widespread killings and displacement caused by insecurity in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kwara, and other parts of the North Central region, Tinubu has never physically visited victims or families of those affected.
“At a time when families in Plateau continue to bury their loved ones, President Tinubu chose to attend a political gathering under the auspices of his party’s national chairman,” the former Vice President said.
Atiku added that Tinubu’s action was a “sad reflection of priorities and a mockery of leadership,” stressing that the people expected empathy, compassion, and reassurance from their leader but were instead met with political celebration.
He recalled Tinubu’s symbolic visit to Benue State in June, noting that the President stopped in Makurdi without visiting Yelewata, the epicenter of a massacre.
“Now again, he is in Plateau State, not to console the bereaved or reassure the broken, but to celebrate with his party elite while the people mourn,” Atiku said.
The former Vice President maintained that the President’s conduct shows insensitivity and disregard for the dignity of human life, warning that Nigerians are taking note and will not forget.
