At least six persons were today killed by Gunmen suspected to members of, Boko Haram while two others sustained gunshot injuries at a popular Monday market Maiduguri.
Pointblanknews.com authoritatively gathered that those killed at the market include four Christian traders, two sustained gunshot injuries while two other civilians were shot dead at Gamboru Ward of the metropolis.
But Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa confirmed the killing of only two people at the Monday Market.
” Yes there was shooting at the Maiduguri Monday Market today by gunmen suspected to be boko haram terrorist. Two people were killed while two sustained injury and are responding to treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)” Musa said.
The spokesman said the JTF have not apprehend any culprit yet ” but we have cordoned off the market and commenced serious manhunt for the perpetrators” suspected members of the Boko Haram had earlier today in Gambouru ward of Maiduguri metropolis shot dead two civilians
According to a resident and the clash occurred when suspected gunmen attacked one of the military patrol vehicles near Kofa Biyu on the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Way in Gamboru ward.
“we had to run for our dare lives, as the shootings between soldiers and gunmen were from front, right and back. I cannot tell you whether some people were killed in the shootout, but some of us ran into our houses for fear of being killed by stray bullets this morning here in Gambouru.”
A staff of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) also told Pointblanknews.com that two bodies of civilians were brought into the hospital by the JTF Patrol Vehicle.
Borno state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gideon Jibrin confirmed the clash between the JTF and suspected gunmen in Gamboru ward of Maiduguri where some civilians were injured by stray bullets.
It will be recalled that state government had yesterday relaxed the 7 months old curfew in view of the Ramadan (Muslim Fasting Period) season.
The curfew earlier observed between 7pm through 6am will now be observed from 9pm through 6am.
