In a significant shake-up at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and appointed Bayo Ojulari as his successor.
The move, which sources familiar with the administration’s internal workings confirmed this early on Wednesday, is part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at repositioning the state-owned oil company.
Additionally, Ahmadu Kida has been named as the non-executive chairman of the company. The President also relieved all board members who were appointed alongside former board chairman Margery Okadigbo and Kyari in November 2023.
Adedapo Segun, who took over the role of Chief Financial Officer from Umaru Ajiya last November, has been named to the new board by President Tinubu.
The newly constituted board members, representing the country’s geopolitical zones as non-executive directors, include Bello Rabiu (North West), Yusuf Usman (North East), and Babs Omotowa, a former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG), representing North Central.
From the South, Austin Avuru has been appointed as a non-executive director, while David Ige will represent the South-West and Henry Obih has been appointed to represent the South-East.
Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will represent the ministry on the new board, while Aminu Said Ahmed has been appointed as the representative of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
