President Mohammadu Buhari has reappointed Prof Mahmood Yakubu as the
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a

Yakubu’s five-year tenure is due in November 2020. He was first
appointed in October 2015 after Prof Attahiru Jega conducted the
elections that saw President Buhari defeating incumbent former President
Goodluck Jonathan.
With his reappointment, Yakubu would be conducting the 2023 elections.
Yakubu is a professor of political history and international studies. He
is an expert in guerrilla warfare, terrorism, and counter-terrorism. He
has also taught war and society in pre-colonial Africa.
He was the former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust
Fund, TETFUND.
