The controversy that trailed the renaming of the University of Lagos seems far from abating, as a Federal High Court today granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from moving ahead with the action.
Justice Stephen Adah, who gave the order in the suit brought by the alumni association of the university, advised the litigants to harmonise all suits on the matter into one case and then adjourned further hearing till July 4.
President Goodluck Jonathan had on May 29 announced the renaming of the university after the late M.K.O Abiola.
The move trigerred widespread condemnation and protests, including no fewer than three court cases.
Speaking on the matter on Sunday night, Jonathan said he followed the right procedure in renaming the university before seeking the endorsement of the National Assembly.
