Nigerian physician, politician, and former presidential aide, Dr. Doyin Okupe has passed away at the age of 72.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that he died on Friday morning after battling a protracted illness suspected to be cancer.
Okupe was a key figure in Nigerian politics, having served as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was, however, forced to step down following a court conviction over alleged money laundering.
According to sources close to the family, Okupe was critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise.
Dr Okupe co-founded the Royal Cross Medical Centre and was the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC).
He was once detained under General Sani Abacha and subsequently disqualified from participating in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries.
He was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
