Schools administrators in Ekiti State have been advised to look inward
and get other stakeholders like alumni associations and community
philanthropists involved in their quests for infrastructural
development in their schools rather than over-depending on government
alone to provide all that schools need.
Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola gave the advice during
a visit to Iworoko Community High school, Iworoko-Ekiti to monitor the
State government-sponsored Intervention Programme on English and
Mathematics for SS3 students in the state.
The Deputy Governor who was conducted round the school by the
Principal, Mr Olu Adeniyi to inspect the dilapidated examination hall
and some parts of the school land which had been encroached, said that
parents have roles to play in the process of imparting knowledge to
their children.
He called on parents and other stakeholders such as old students and
other well-meaning individuals and groups in and around the host
community to cooperate with the government and be ready to support the
efforts of the government to turn around the structures in schools.
Dr. Olusola stressed that the poor financial situation of the state
government and the huge debt inherited by the Fayose administration
from the immediate past government had been a clog in the wheels of
infrastructural development of the state.
He assured that government would continue to do its best at raising
the standard of education in the state.
While addressing some of the SS3 students he met in the school, Dr.
Olusola counseled them on the need to study hard in order to attain
success in this year’s national examinations.
Earlier, the Principal Mr. Olu Adeniyi had solicited for the
assistance of government in the rehabilitation of the school’s
dilapidated examination hall and the construction of the perimeter
fencing of the school to curtail the incessant encroachment on the
school land.
