Emefiele asks groups campaigning for his election as president to stop the distraction

by Our Reporter
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele for the first time on Monday came out to chastise those routing for him to become Nigerian next president, saying they should stop distracting him from his main monetary policy focus.
Emefiele in a Tweet on Monday categorically stated that his main focus presently is to conduct a robust monetary policy and fight inflation while supporting President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration to finish strong.

It would be recalled that some groups have been pushing for him to contest the 2023 general election as a presidential candidate. The group took their campaign to the national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the weekend.

At the national convention of the ruling party on Saturday, many supporters of the CBN governor sang and danced with huge banners with many inscriptions bearing his image, declaring him the best candidate to beat in the next presidential election.

Also, some of his supporters have made radio jingles and video footage to eulogise his achievement as the CBN governor, which they say qualifies him to become the country’s next president.
Though Emefiele has not declared to run for the top office in 2023, however, until now he has not also distanced himself from campaigns putting him out as an aspirant under the ruling party, giving his traducers the opportunity to trash him for exploiting his office to run a major political campaign.

However, his Tweet, which he simply ends with #NoDistractionsPlease suggested that he was reacting to the growing criticism of the campaign for him to pick up the APC presidential ticket.

“My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy;

“Development finance and supporting farmers & manufacturers in our self-sufficiency and import substitution drive; raising N15 trillion for InfraCo infrastructure financing;

“Building a world class International Financial Center in Lagos; as we support the @MBuhari  Administration to finish strong.  #NoDistractionsPlease<” Emefiele wrote on his Twitter handle.
