Maduekwe paid a whooping $1million per annum, (approximately N230million)
to a foreign consultancy firm, for what it described as ‘ providing
counsel and advice’ to the Nigeria foreign ministry.
The letters of the agreement on July 17, 2009, spells out the job thus ‘
provide counsel and advice to the foreign principal (Nigeria foreign
Affairs ministry), regarding bilateral relations with the United states
Government”
The contracting firm is one Patton Boggs LLC, situated at 2550 M Street
NW, Washington DC.
Pointblanknews.com which is in possession of the agreement, also learnt
that this same firm were consultants to the former National Security
Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
The Minister and one Phillip Kaplan on behalf of Patton Boggs signed the
agreement.
The fee was $1m per annum; paid at the commencement of the service,
balance due on the 15th day of the fifth month of the initial engagement.
Aside from the principal, a separate $250,000 was set aside to cover ”
estimated expenses pertinent to the engagement, which held in Patton Boggs
Trust Fund.
Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua appointed Maduekwe Minister for Foreign
Affairs on July 26, 2007. He was removed from the position when President
Goodluck Jonathan dissolved the cabinet in 2010.
Maduekwe was Transport Minister, Culture and Tourism Minister, Foreign
affairs minister, Scribe of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and
Ambassador to Canada.
