Recall that Mr Abubakar tendered his resignation on Saturday, August 24, 2024 shortly after briefing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the security situation in the country at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Although the former NIA DG cited personal reasons for his decision to quit, this medium gathered that the ill treatment of security personnel, particularly those attached to the NIA, caused Mr.Abubakar to quit his plum job last week.
“Ahmed Abubakar clashed with Bichi at a security meeting where he openly expressed his displeasure with the way Bichi was treating his men.
“He decided to brief Mr. President, informing him that the security of the nation was being jeopardized by the man whose job it was, to secure citizens and their property,” a highly-placed source who craved anonymity, told this medium.
He added that should things get better in the weeks and months ahead, “Nigerians would have Ahmed Abubakar to thank.”
Bichi has since been replaced by Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new DG of the ssecret police unit.
Adeola joined the DSS in 1990 and has been described by those who know him as a diligent, hardworking intelligence officer.
In its official reaction to the appointment of the new DSS boss,
spokesman of the agency, Peter Afunaya in a statement, lauded Ajayi’s diverse background and immense qualities.
“Mr. Ajayi is a thoroughbred, versatile, intelligence officer who has held many command positions including State Director of Security (SDS) in Rivers, Bayelsa, Bauchi, Enugu and Kogi states.
“Mr. Ajayi is diligent, resilient, ubane, proactive and analytic. He comes to his new position with experience, capacity and immense goodwill,” the statement read in part.
