President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to defeat terrorism and banditry, describing insecurity as a major threat to Nigeria’s economic progress and national stability.
The president made the remarks on Monday while delivering his opening address at the National Executive Council (NEC) Conference on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable National Development in Abuja.
Commending state governments for their efforts in tackling insecurity, Tinubu specifically praised the governors of Borno, Katsina and Kaduna states for their commitment to protecting lives and property.
“And I am leaving here again to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism and banditry, that I promise you. So, it’s an economic encumbrance if we do not find a solution to it,” the president said.
He acknowledged the toll insecurity has taken on leaders and citizens alike but expressed confidence that the country would prevail.
“It is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you that we will win with determination and resiliency. We will overcome this unacceptable terrorism and banditry; it’s not part of our culture, it’s foreign to us,” Tinubu added.
Turning to the economy, the president said his government is intensifying efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s macroeconomic environment and drive inclusive development.
“We are strengthening macroeconomic stability through improved revenue performance, stronger public financial management, and enhanced physical coordination,” he said.
“We have prioritized infrastructure development across transportation, power, digital connectivity, housing, and irrigation as catalysts for inclusive growth.”
Tinubu stressed that improved security and sustained economic reforms remain central to his administration’s agenda for national development.
