Aggrieved pioneer members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Sokoto
state led by former Governor Attahiru Bafarwa and his supporters have
defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Bafarawa and his supporters accused the APC of deception and injustice
after the party insisted that former PDP Governor Aliyu Wamakko who moved
to the APC is the new leader.
The former Sokoto Governor and his supporters concluded their defection
last Friday.
This is even as the APC is set for a major crack which will see a massive
defection following internal battles between supporters of General
Mohammadu Buhari and former Lagos State Governor, Senator Ahmed Bola
Tinubu over leadership positions in the party.
APC is yet to hold a convention to elect its substantive officers months
after the merger of CPC, ACN and ANPP to form the party.
Also, sources told Pointblanknews.com that former Kano Governor, Ibrahim
Shekarau who is also having a running battle with Governor Musa Kwankwaso
over who controls the APC structure in the state is “seriously
considering” a move to the PDP.
Spokesman to former Governor Bafarawa confirmed the defection, saying the
decision was reached after a meeting with former Governor Shekarau.
“Yes, we have defected to PDP. The decision is the outcome of an extensive
meeting with former Governor Shekarau and others, which include the ACN,
CPC and ANPP members across the 23 Local Government areas.
The defection in Sokoto State APC is expected to hit Kwara, Adamawa and
Kano States where Governors who defected from the PDP are having a battle
with the State APC leadership.
