There are indications that Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, may be plotting to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from returning as president come 2015.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Obasanjo has perfected the strategy to foist another northerner on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Nigeria the way he did with late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
It was gathered that Obasanjo wants Jonathan out because he (Obasanjo) felt the President was behind his exit from the position of BOT chairman.
According to our source, Obasanjo is shopping for a replacement for Jonathan from the north, and one of those on top of his list is Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido. His running mate lined up by Obasanjo is Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amechi.
Contrary to Obasanjo’s claim to voluntary resignation, our source said he resigned out of self-preservation. He reportedly got information on plans by PDP stakeholders to remove him as BOT chairman. He resigned to sustain his huge ego and to stop his traducers from rejoicing over his disgrace from office.
Despite all odds, and his state of health, Obasanjo forced Yar’Adua down the throats of his party men via backroom deals. His strategy then was hinged on the fact that he could control Yar’Adua, but it backfired when on assuming office Yar’Adua called his bluff.
A source disclosed that “When we first came in, Obasanjo was always pestering the President, telling him what to and what not to do. It became clear that he wanted to continue to rule from the backdoor. Of course, that did not go down well with Turai (Yar’Adua’s wife) and some forces within the administration who moved quickly to checkmate Obasanjo and whittle down his influence in the Presidential Villa.”
According to our highly dependable source, One of the sins of Yar’Adua was the scrapping of the Chief of Staff post in The Presidency and the sack of the acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Gbolade Osinowo, and the other staff in his office.
Osinowo and his colleagues were presidential aides who served Obasanjo and were retained by Yar’Adua.
Our source said they were sacked because they were regarded as moles in the Presidential Villa who had been feeding Obasanjo with information on “classified developments” in The Presidency.
Said our source “ Obasanjo plots to take out Jonathan is in tandem with his nature of being vindictive. He will not forgive Jonathan because he feels the President pushed him out as BOT chairman so he (Jonathan) could take full control. He has some people in mind but top on the list is (Sule) Lamido.”
“ He knows he has lost out in the scheme of things so what he wants to do is bait the north, and cause confusion within the PDP’ our source said.
Pointblanknews.com learnt further that the plot to ease out Obasanjo was perfected when top ranking members complained about his brashness and influence. President Jonathan agreed to it, we learnt, because he was told if he wanted total support for the emergence of Bamanga Tukur, as chairman, he too should support the exit of Obasanjo.
