2015: I Have No Governorship Ambition – Ekweremadu

by Our Reporter

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekwereamdu, has said he has no intention to contest the 2015 Governorship election in Enugu State.

Senator Ekweremadu stated while fielding questions during a breakfast meeting with members of the Senate Press Corps in Abuja today.

On the issue of zoning, Senator Ekweremadu said that while he would be happy to see a candidate from Enugu North Senatorial District emerge as the next Governor of Enugu State, it would not be based on any previously agreed or written zoning formula since he was not aware of any, but because the Zone was the only Senatorial District yet to produce a Governor of the State since 1999 despite the abundance of qualified persons.

Meanwhile, the Deputy President of the Senate has said the Senate Committee on Constitution review would lay its Report before the Senate in plenary this week.

He assured that recommendations made by the Committee were based on majority views on what would best strengthen the nation’s democracy and federalism, while also engendering national development.
