Death toll from two days of exchange of gunfire between Nigerian security Forces and Boko Haram sect has risen to 40 whlile Search operation for sect intensifies in north eastern town of Damaturu, Yobe state. Police official said.
Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Patrick Egbuniwe confirmed killings today on phone from Damaturu, the state capital.
According to him, ” four policemen, two soldiers and 34 insurgents were killed.” He added ” four other policemen sustained injury and are responding to treatment at the Damaturu General Hospital.”
The commissioner said calm has retuned to the town “but we have not decided to relax the 24 hours curfew imposed by the state government
The Police Chief also revealed that police and other security forces ” are conducting shop to shop search at the Damaturu market to see if some of the these insurgents are hiding there. We are also checking if some of arms and ammunition as well as IEDs are hidden in the Shops.”
