As the agitation rages over which zone should produce the next governor of Abia State in 2023, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, says that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State engaged in consultations on the governorship ticket of the party and dismissed reports that the Abia North zone has been disqualified from the governorship race.
The Governor, who disclosed this while receiving a PDP governorship aspirant, Professor Gregory Ibe, at his country home, Umuobiakwa, in Obingwa LGA, assured that the PDP will do the right thing and would ensure that no zone would be marginalized in the scheme of things.
Ikpeazu acknowledged that every zone of the State has capable individuals who have what it takes to pilot the affairs of the State and expressed satisfaction with the caliber of persons who have indicated interest in the race to become the next Governor of the State.
Reminding politicians that even with the number of qualified persons, only one person could be Governor at a particular time, the Governor assured that the party is deepening consultations on the best way forward to ensure that victory is achieved.
“Power comes from God and it is so important that God cannot leave it in the hands of any one man. While I may have my own thoughts and opinion on the issue, I am confident that what will happen eventually will be what God sanctions and it will be for the good of our state,’’ Ikpeazu said.
He urged all aspirants to be bold enough to support whoever emerges as the PDP and support the party to win the general elections.
He described Ibe who is the Proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu(GUU) as a distinguished son of Abia and his personal friend and wished him well.
Ikpeazu further urged the governorship aspirant to be courageous in the race and also accept whatever decision that the party will take over the governorship ticket.
