A former House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Maji Johnson Bello, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Bello, who contested for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat, announced his defection on Wednesday in Abuja, where he said his decision was informed by a desire to support the Tinubu administration and contribute to shaping the country’s political future.
The former ADC aspirant, who was also an associate of former Vice-President and ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said he was convinced that Tinubu had performed well in the past three and a half years and deserved another opportunity to continue his policies.
Bello, who is the founder of the Maji Johnson Bello Political and Humanitarian Movement, said his entry into the APC was driven by his desire to be part of a broader political platform committed to national development and the progress of communities.
“As we take this important step into the APC, we do so with open hearts, a spirit of cooperation and a sincere desire to become part of a broader movement committed to national development and the progress of our communities,” he said.
He added that he hoped to build lasting relationships within the party based on mutual respect, shared responsibility and a common commitment to national development.
Bello also urged Nigerians to recognise what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration since its inauguration on May 29, 2023.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as we look forward to the future, it is important to recognise the policies and initiatives introduced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since the assumption of office on May 29, 2023,” he said.
