Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Mr Nsima Ekere, has lauded the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher, for making 52 proposals for amendment in the constitution.
He gave the commendation in Uyo on Wednesday when Justice Olu Ariwoola of the Supreme Court paid him a courtesy visit.
Justice Ariwoola, who represented the CJN, was in Uyo for the Chief Justice of Nigeria Sports competition.
Ekere also commended the CJN for some reforms carried out in the judicial system in Nigeria.
He described the tenure of Justice Musdapher as “eventful and full of far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning the judiciary to meet the expectations of Nigerians.”
The deputy governor hailed the Supreme Court judgment on the dispute between Akwa Ibom and Cross River States over the 76 oil wells.
He said the judgment had reaffirmed his belief in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
Ekere said that the state was delighted to play host to this year’s Chief Justice Sports’ Competition, which was started 18 years ago.
In his remarks, Justice Ariwoola commended the Akpabio administration for its `impressive’ performance and expressed the belief that more would be done before the end of his tenure in 2015.
