For contributions to the growth of the clan, a news correspondent with Al Jazeera English TV, Mr Fidelis Mbah, was among the numerous illustrious sons and daughters of Ohafia Clan who recently received award of honour and Chieftaincy titles.
The titles and award of honour were bestowed in recognition of sterling achievements in fields of endeavour like Business, academia, Industry, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, during the launch of comprehensive map of Ohafia.
Reacting to the recognition, Fidelis Mbah who was visibly filled with emotions said: “I feel honoured to be recognized by my people. This is a call to contribute more to the development of Ohafia local government and Abia state. I encourage other young people in Abia state to contribute their quota to the development of their communities. If we all join our hands to support government efforts and live in peace, the state will witness unprecedented growth and development in al sectors.I will not relent in my service to my people.”
Fidelis Mbah, a native of Okon-Aku, Ohafia, is an award-winning international journalist who has travelled and worked across the world, reporting and interviewing influential personalities.
He is also a public administrator, communications expert, policy strategist, brand expert and development strategist.
Fidelis is presently a correspondent with Al Jazeera English Television.
He has also worked as News Correspondent of the BBC World Service in Africa and London, Africa Deputy Director at CGTN Africa (CCTV News) in Kenya, Africa Correspondent at TRTWORLD in Turkey, the Nigeria reporter of the Associated Press (AP), Nigeria Producer for the American network, NBC NEWS, and a reporter with UN News service, IRIN.
In recent years, he has covered elections across several countries, reported political, economic and humanitarian news across the world including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Netherlands, Turkey, Qatar, Syria, Madagascar, Mozambique, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Nigeria, The Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, South Sudan, Cameroon etc.
Fidelis has been deployed to cover some of the biggest humanitarian crisis in Syria, Turkey, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Cameroon and D.R Congo amongst many other countries.
In September, 2018, he set up a not-for-profit organisation, the African Centre for Media Development (ACMD), to offer free training and mentoring of journalists in Africa.
He has interviewed heads of government and former leaders across the world and facilitated international conferences.
He is a member of the National Union of Journalists (UK), Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
