The Bauchi State Government on Wednesday paid N23.9 million as compensation for the acquisition of land for its 1000 mass housing scheme.

Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, the State Commissioner for Land and Housing, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries in Bauchi.

Hammayo explained that the money was paid as compensation for the acquisition of land, economic trees and structures on the site of the proposed project.

The commissioner said that appropriate measures were taken to ensure that only genuine claimants were paid.

Hammayo, who was represented by Alhaji Kani Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said the community would benefit from the project.

Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, the Emir of Dungal, commended the ministry for its prompt payment of the compensation.

He commended the government for allowing them to harvest their crops before the commencement of work.

Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, the Managing Director, Mubel Nigeria Ltd., the construction firm handling the housing project, pledged to provide the community with amenities.

He said that the company would provide transformer, maternity clinic and boreholes for the community.
