Clark Wades Into IYC Crisis, Orders Suspension of Fresh Election

Prominent Ijaw leader and Elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark has waded
into the crisis rocking the Ijaw Youth Council, (IYC), ordering the
suspension of the conduct of the fresh election in the interest of
peace and unity of the Ijaw Nation.
Chief Clark, in a statement signed in his capacity as the Chairman of
the Ijaw National Congress, INC Board of Trustees called on the
affected parties to allow peace to reign, assuring that the issue will
be resolved amicably.
The statement disclosed that respected Ijaw elders including Alaowei
Broderick Bozimo, Chief Francis Doukpola, Professor Chris Dime, Dr.
M.P. Okonny, Mrs Suowari, INC Exco members, past Presidents of IYC,
IYC Speaker and Clerk and the three zonal Chairmen met on Saturday,
11th January, 2014 at the residence of Chief Clark in Abuja.
It added that the meeting is aimed at resolving the matter peacefully,
and, therefore, called on the warring members to exercise restraint
pending the outcome of the consultations.
The statement reads in part, I am still holding further consultation
with various stakeholders and our next meeting will soon take place to
further deliberate on the matter.
I, therefore, appeal to all concerned to sheath their swords, be calm
and peaceful until the issues are amicably settled.
