The political ambition of socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has suffered a setback after he failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Cubana Chief Priest had earlier declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the APC, intensifying consultations and political engagements across the constituency in recent months.
His campaign activities included participation in party meetings, stakeholder consultations, and screening processes leading up to the primaries.
However, results from the APC primary election indicate that he was unsuccessful in clinching the party’s ticket, with another aspirant emerging as the flagbearer for the constituency.
Political observers say the outcome underscores the competitive nature of party politics in Imo State, where delegate structure and grassroots influence often outweigh celebrity popularity.
“The APC primaries in Imo State remain highly competitive, and this outcome reflects the strength of grassroots delegate mobilization over celebrity influence,” a political analyst said.
Supporters and social media users have also reacted to the development, with mixed sentiments expressed online.
“He gave it a good try. Politics is not easy. He should keep pushing,” one supporter wrote.
“The result shows that party tickets are ultimately determined by internal party structures rather than public popularity,” another user added.
Some supporters expressed disappointment over the outcome, while others encouraged him to remain active in politics ahead of future electoral contests.
As of the time of filing this report, Cubana Chief Priest has not issued an official statement on the outcome of the primary election, as reactions continue to trail the development online.
The result is seen as a setback for the entertainer-turned-politician in his first major attempt at elective office, despite his strong social media presence and public influence.
With the primary concluded, attention now shifts to the APC’s official unveiling of its candidate for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
