Dankwambo Flags Off N6bn Road Project

by Our Reporter

Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State on Friday flagged off  construction work on the Kanawa-Deba-Jagali-Jauro Gotel road in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the six billion naira project is a federal road construction cost of which is later to be refunded to the State Government by the Federal Government.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Dankwambo said the road which was constructed in the late 1970s had been in deplorable condition for too long.

He said that the 54 km road was important because it linked various towns and settlements in the state.

The governor said it also linked towns in Adamawa with the Balanga Dam, which he said, was important for agriculture.

Dankwambo said that President Goodluck Jonathan had approved the re-construction of the road and agreed to re-imburse the State Government in due course.

“The road shall therefore, be constructed based on Federal Government standards,” he said.

He stated that the project would also include upgrading the surface-dressed section of Jagali-Talasse road with spurs to Maikaho, Kuri, Lano and Kurjale towns.

The governor announced government’s plans to award contracts for the construction of township roads in Deba, Dadin-Kowa and Hinna towns, urging people of the area to cooperate with contractors handling the project.

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Council, Alhaji Salisu Mohammed, thanked the governor for awarding the contract, saying the people would now heave sigh of relief.

The Minister of State for Works, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, attended the event. (NAN
