The Enugu State Government says it has modified its initial Four-point Development Agenda into what it now calls Vision 4-2020.
By the vision, the state government expects Enugu State to rank among the four most developed and self-sufficient states in the federation by the year 2020.
The Executive Secretary, Enugu State Economic Planning Commission, Mr Dan Onyishi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday.
Onyishi said Vision 4-2020, was in line with the Federal Government’s Vision 202020 and would be driven by physical infrastructure development.
He also said the establishment of the infrastructure would be expected in all the sectors of the economy.
“When the issue of Vision 202020 came on board, we now looked at the framework and used it as a direction that will guide us in preparing our own vision.
“At the end, we were able to produce what we call Vision 4-2020. So our vision for the state is to see ourselves among the four most developed and self-sufficient states of the federation.
“We have goals, which will be driven by physical infrastructure, which drives other sectors of the economy.
“We have a goal too to ensure that we increase our IGR from the level at which we are now up to 50 per cent of our resource envelope, which will now improve the resources available for us to confront developmental challenges in the state,” he said.
Onyishi said that with the review of the plan, the implementation of the policy would take effect from 2012 to 2015.
He added that the governor had asked all the commissioners of the various ministries in the state to produce their work plans for effective implementation of the new vision.
On the performance of the reviewed Four-point Development Agenda, the executive secretary said its implementation had reached 94 per cent.
He also said that during its implementation, the government was able allocate resources to key sectors of the economy in the state.
“We have been able to address and allocate resources to key sectors. And even the actual performance indicates a holistic improvement in some of those sectors where the state is committed to addressing,” he said.
Onyishi said that the draft of the new vision would soon be adopted by the state executive council, gazetted and made public.
“We are on course to make Enugu State a destination for quality health, quality education, and other basic infrastructure,” he said.
