The Legal practitioners Privileges Committee on Thursday in Abuja approved the appointment of 25 lawyers to the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr Sunday Olurundahunsi, who presented the names of successful candidates to newsmen, said that the selection was done in accordance with the provisions of Legal Practitioners’ Act 2004.
Olurundahunsi, who is also the Secretary of the Committee, gave the names of the beneficiaries as, Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George, Prof. Clement James-Dakas, Mr Femi Falana, Mrs joy Adesina, Mrs Connie-Jean Aremu, Mahmud Magaji, Ogwu Onoja, Garuba Tetengi.
Others, according to him, are Selekeowei Larry, Abenny Mohammed, Charlse Obisishai, Luke Illogu, Francis Agbu, Paul Ananaba, Akinlaja Moses, Ahmed Raji and Adekunle Oyesanya.
Olurundahunsi named the rest as Rotimi Oguneso, Oluseye Opasanya, Aduroja Olumuyiwa, Aliyu Umar, Ilo Sanusi, Rotimi Jacobs and Ndukwe Nnnawuchi and Henry Ogbodu.
He said that the swearing-in of the new senior advocates would be done after the court had returned from its annual break in September.
The Secretary said that the application of stringent selection criteria accounted for the low number of applications received.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 125 applied while 71 names were shortlisted.
