The Gombe State Government has distributed 603,200 doses of Abendazole drugs to curb Lymphatic Filariasis disease in four local government areas of the state.
Mrs Talatu Danzaria, the state Coordinator, Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis Control, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Gombe.
Lymphatic filariasis is a disease caused by round-thread-like worms usually spread through mosquito bites.
She listed the four local government areas as Balanga, Billiri, Kaltungo and Shongom in Southern part of the state.
According to her, the four local governments are selected for the first batch of the intervention based on the base line survey, conducted by her office.
She said that the council areas were the most vulnerable areas in the state, hence, the need to receive the treatment before others.
Danzaria said that the Northern and Central parts of the state would equally receive the drugs before the end of August.
She said that all groups of people were vulnerable; pointing that getting rid of mosquitoes breeding areas was one of the major preventive measures.
Danzaria called on the public to always avail themselves with such opportunity since it was free of charge.
