There was a massive political show of support in Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State on Tuesday as over 10,000 constituents reportedly stormed a rally to adopt Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere as their consensus candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election under the Action Peoples Party (APP).
The gathering, held at Christ Anglican Church Field, Ntueke, also featured declarations of support for other electoral positions, including the State House of Assembly and the governorship, with stakeholders insisting that the decision reflected the collective will of the people.
Community leaders, youth groups, women associations, and political stakeholders at the event unanimously endorsed Ugochinyere, citing his performance in the National Assembly and sustained engagement with constituents.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, they said the lawmaker’s representation had brought renewed visibility to Ideato at the national level, alongside interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and empowerment programmes.
They further described the adoption as a people-driven decision that cuts across party lines, anchored on performance, trust, and the desire for continuity in representation.
“This is a consensus rooted in the people’s will,” one of the stakeholders said. “It is not about party politics alone, but about leadership that has delivered visible results.”
Youth leaders at the rally also pledged their support, insisting that the constituency remained united behind Ugochinyere ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We have spoken with one voice,” a youth leader said. “This is about performance and representation. We are united and determined to protect our mandate through lawful means.”
Women groups at the event also expressed confidence in the lawmaker, praising what they described as his inclusive approach to governance and consistent engagement with grassroots communities.
The rally further attracted solidarity messages from various socio-cultural and political groups, all pledging to mobilise support for the consensus adoption ahead of the election.
Participants also reiterated their commitment to peaceful and democratic participation in the electoral process, warning against any attempt to undermine the will of the people.
“The support here is overwhelming and intentional,” a community elder noted. “It reflects trust, performance, and continuity. Ideato has made its decision.”
The event ended with a strong reaffirmation of support for Ugochinyere’s 2027 bid, with constituents expressing optimism that their collective endorsement would translate into electoral victory.
