The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) in the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly promoted DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
Their elevation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the police and ensure effective management of operations, logistics, and administration across the Force.
Brief background of promoted officers
DIG Zachariah Fera Achinyan, before his promotion, served as the AIG in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi, overseeing police operations in Benue and Nasarawa states. Known for his operational experience and command leadership, he has held several strategic command and staff positions within the Force.
DIG Zango Baba was the AIG in charge of the Department of Logistics and Supply at Force Headquarters. In that role, he supervised procurement, the distribution of equipment, and logistics support critical to police operations nationwide.
DIG Isyaku Mohammed, prior to his promotion, headed the Armament Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he was responsible for arms management, maintenance of police weapon systems, and ensuring proper regulation of firearms within the Force.
DIG Margaret Ochalla served as AIG at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, where she coordinated high-profile investigations and criminal intelligence operations in one of the country’s busiest investigative commands.
DIG Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman previously served as AIG in charge of Police Accounts and Budget at Force Headquarters. His responsibilities included financial planning, budget implementation, and oversight of fiscal management within the police.
DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie was the AIG in charge of Zone 15, Maiduguri, covering parts of the North-East. His tenure focused on coordinating security operations and strengthening policing efforts in a region affected by insurgency and other security challenges.
DIG Umar Shehu Nadada served as AIG overseeing Zone 14, Katsina, supervising police activities across Katsina and neighbouring areas. He has extensive experience in field operations and security management in the North-West.
The promotions are expected to reinforce senior leadership capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.
