NDDC Commissions Residential Quarters, Electrification, Roads For Nigerian Army

The Niger Delta Development Commission has commissioned a residential quarter, solar powered street light and 2.74km internal roads built by the commission for Elele barracks of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the occasion, the Acting Managing Director/CEO, NDDC, Dr Christy Atako explained that the projects were a demonstration of the importance the NDDC attaches to security in the Niger Delta region and the country in general.

The projects, she said are also inline with the transformation agenda of the Goodluck administration which recognizes security as key to the success of the country.

This, she explained informed why the Commission recently provided 100 Prado jeeps fixed with various security gadgets for the Nigerian Police to enhance its operations”we have donated facilities and equipment to the different formations of the Nigerian security organization or agencies, just recently we Commissioned a 100 Patrol vehicles for the Police and today we are here to Commission Projects for the Army”

The Acting Managing Director described the solar powered street light as very significant because “you must have illumination, you must see where you are going, and you must have the presence of light around you to be able to handle your enemies”

On the road projects, the NDDC Boss said “ I was told that before now men of the Nigerian army in this barrack will park their cars far from where they live but now they can drive comfortably to their houses, this is a joy to us in NDDC”

Commenting on the residential quarters Dr. Atako stated that the NDDC believes that Officers and men of the Armed Forces deserve a comfortable accommodation in view of their dedication and sacrifice to the nation.

She however called on the Army to also explore ways of Partnering with other Establishments for the provision of more amenities in the Barrack, because they are still a lot to be done.

Earlier the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General O.I. Ozamere represented by Lt. Col.M. Adamu thanked the NDDC for the Projects which he said will go a long way in improving the lot of the Officers and men of the barrack.

Brigadier Ozamere who was so over joyed with the projects said “ we are so pleased with the NDDC, even the internal roads which before now were impassable have been constructed to the extent that officers and men can drive comfortably to their houses, all to the benevolence of NDDC.”
