The Imo State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has accused GoVv. Rochas Okorocha and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state (PDP) of fighting to control the local governments in order to embezzle their monthly allocations.
The party insists that the current struggle between Okorocha and the PDP is purely for the control of the council allocatoins and nothing else.
In a statement endorsed by its state Secretary, Christian Oguama, ACN alleged that there are huge cache of funds accruing to the council monthly which Okorocha sees as free and easy funds and would not allow the PDP manage the funds.
“ It has been alleged that most of the Transition Committee, since they were appointed, they are only allowed to take the exact amount required to pay salaries plus a few Millions to run their councils. The balance of these allocations running into millions per council, monthly, disappear into thin air.
“Such monies have perpetually tremained unaccounted for . No documentary evidence exist as to how these billions were spent,” the party alleged.
ACN further argued that if Okorocha had genuinely sought to correct the perceived irregularities of the 2010 council polls in the state, he would have conducted a fresh election as quickly as possible upon dissolution of the councils when he assumed office last year.
