Imo state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha  has set up a revolving loan scheme that will offer the sum of 10m Naira interest-free loan to the Keke Operators in the state.
The governor made this known during a meeting with keke operators at the Government House, Owerri.
Okorocha stated that the loan scheme would be supervised by the leadership of the Keke Unions in the state to ensure that beneficiaries do not default even as he added that the scheme will go a long way to empower the operators and make them earn better respect in the society.
He solicited for their support in ensuring cleanliness of the capital city and urged them to continue in the fight against crime by making available information that can lead to the arrest of criminals. He also promised that a handsome reward awaits those who will give useful information to government and security agencies.
The governor disclosed that he has stopped the collection of all forms of levies from keke operators, adding that a filling station would also be designated to provide free fuel to them.
Okorocha on the other hand expressed appreciation to the keke operators for their support during the election and intimate them with the achievement of his administration in the last one year which includes introduction of free education from primary to university, implementation of N20, 000 minimum wages for Imo civil servants, clearing of 12 years arrears owed to Imo pensioners.
Others include the construction of Heroes Square, Ikemba Ojukwu Centre, construction of the International Conference Centre and the Freedom Square otherwise called the Peoples Embassy.
The governor further stated that he has attracted two more Universities to the state, namely “ the Loyola Jesuit College and Imo – European University which will be sited at Ngor Okpala and Ideato local councils, respectively.
Responding, the chairman of the Keke Riders Association in the state, Mr. Stanley Dike, thanked Okorocha for his numerous achievements and pledged the unalloyed support of Keke operators to his administration.
