The controversy surrounding the office of the National Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been laid to rest following the elevation of the party’s Deputy National Secretary Arc. Sentonji Koshoedo by the National Working Committee (NWC).
The office of the party’s scribe has been under serious contention after the then substantive secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu secured the governorship ticket of the party during the Imo State governorship election.
The South East thereafter appointed Hon. Sunday Ude-Okoye as Acting National Secretary after a caucus meeting held in Enugu on the ground that Anyanwu cannot be a member of the NWC and at the same time holding the governorship ticket of the party. They claimed that it is against PDP guidelines and should not be allowed.
Anyanwu however challenged the decision of the zone in the court and lost all his cases from Enugu High Court to the Supreme Court which ordered that the court has no jurisdiction in determining the leadership of a political party.
The Apex Court ordered the party to obey it’s constitution and use it’s internal crisis resolution mechanism to tackle the matter.
Guided by the ruling, governors elected on the platform of the party after it’s meeting in Ibadan, resolved that the PDP Acting National Secretary should be elevated as Acting National Secretary.
Following the decision, the NWC after it’s meeting on Wednesday firmed the decision of the governors.
In an Internal Memo, titled ‘Appoitment of Acting National Secretary’ number PDP/NS/EST/146, dated April 23, 2025, addressed to all staff and signed by Gurama Bawa (Tafidan Zing) HOD of Administration which was obtained by Pointblank News, the party directed all it’s staff to recognize Koshoedo as it’s Acting National Secretary going forward.
The memo reads, “I am directed by the Ag. National Chairman to inform all Staff that Hon. (Arch) Setonji Koshoedo, Deputy National Secretary (DNS) is now the Acting National Secretary of our great Party till further notice.
“In line of the above, all Party correspondences should be channel to Hon. (Arch) Setonji Koshoedo.
“You are kindly requested to accord him all the necessary support and cooperation as the Acting National Secretary of our great Party.
“This is for your information and guidance please”.
