Senate President David Mark on Wednesday urged Nigerians keep hope alive in spite of the trying times Nigeria was passing through, as prayers would help them to triumph.
Mark gave the advice at the St Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy Apo, Abuja during a Holy Mass celebrated by the new Cardinal John Cardinal Onaiyekan.
“We are in a difficult situation, but we will continue to pray and I know with prayer, honesty and commitment on our part we can overcome.
“We must not despair. We must be resolute to face the challenges,” he said.
Mark, who led Nigerian delegation to the Vatican to witness the consecration of John Cardinal Onaiyekan, said that the Cardinal had brought fame and honour to Nigeria.
He said that Onaiyekan had remained humble, steadfast and dedicated in spite of the elevation, and urged him to keep up his crusade for peace and unity of Nigeria.
Earlier, in his homily, Onaiyekan implored Nigerians to show compassion to one another.
He said that love and togetherness were the panacea to the increasing conflicts across the country. (NAN)
