The Rivers Government has donated N10 million to the State House of Assembly Premiere Red Carpet Event slated for September in Port Harcourt.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event is being packaged to honour past and serving legislators of the state who had distinguished themselves in law making.
Mr Tele Ikuru, the Rivers Deputy Governor, announced the donation on Friday in Port Harcourt at a fund raising ceremony organised by the House of Assembly for the Premiere Red Carpet event.
Ikuru, who commended the cordial relations existing between the executive and the legislative arms of government, also lauded the lawmakers for legislating a new pension regime for past governors and their deputies.
He said it was better to appreciate past governors and their deputies when they are still living.
Ikuru pledged the support and co-operation of the executive arm with the legislature to promote good governance in the state.
He urged the critics to be constructive rather than embarking on frivolous and irrelevant criticisms that could not stand good reasoning.
In his remarks, Mr Otelemaba Amachree, the Speaker, said the lawmakers’ Red Carpet event would be used to honour hard work and excellence in legislative business.
He said the event was to honour both past and serving legislators who had distinguished themselves from the first Assembly to date.
Amachree said the fund raising would give opportunity to friends of the Assembly, including the multinational companies, to support it in the recognition of distinguished lawmakers. (NAN)
